What was your inspiration for this project?

In trying to explain my overall goal for what this building could be,At the beginning of this project I initially commented that I wanted the building to feel like it used to be haunted but no longer is! All jokes aside, there is a lot of history in the Melrose and, like on almost any remodel, we didn’t want to strip the building of that history. However, we also didn’t want to force people to be immersed in it every time they stepped inside. We wanted to breathe new life into this building and give it the respectful elegance it deserves.

What was your greatest challenge?

There were a lot of challenges with this project and probably every person involved would have a different answer to what was the greatest challenge was; but I think bringing a hundred year old building up to new codes and technology that allows it to run without a full time staff, is probably at the root of most of our answers! That or maybe they would say that I was their greatest challenge!

What were you most proud of / excited about?

I’m most proud of just how many people had a hand in helping this building transform. We really wanted this building to be for and to service the community, and so to have so many people from the community contribute their talents to this project has been really neat to see.
