What was your inspiration for this project?
The inspiration for this home was ‘California modern.’ The owner wanted a desert feel but very modern design.
What was your greatest challenge?
The greatest challenge in this home was the fireplace wall and the selection/location of exterior materials. Getting all the details and depths correct for the fireplace wall was very challenging because the owner wanted storage along this wall as well as space to sit on the ‘floating’ hearth in front of the fireplace. The height of the fireplace wall and tile installation was unusual and difficult for the tile setters.
What were you most proud of / excited about?
I am most proud that this home met all the requirements of the homeowner and remained minimalist and simple in appearance.
