What was your inspiration for this project?
This little downtown house came to us with the intention of being a rental. Since it wasn’t going to be someone’s full-time home, we pitched our client’s with the idea of going a bit funky and drawing inspiration from the house’s original 60’s style. While the “Malibu pink” cabinets, as Chad likes to call them, could be a hard sell for a full-time home, they’re a great way to grab people's attention as you're scrolling through VRBO!

What was your greatest challenge?
When we first walked through the house, the washer and dryer were taking up an entire wall of the kitchen, and the island (if we can even really call it that) was only about 4 square feet. The primary bathroom had an accordion door because there wasn’t enough room for an actual door, and the vanity was barely big enough for one person. We decided the washer and dryer needed their own laundry room, and that we’d have to rearrange the primary bathroom and closet to make them both feel bigger and more usable.

What were you most proud of / excited about?
Designing spaces that are different from the norm, or even from what our other projects look like, is our favorite! We are grateful that our clients were so trusting and that now lots of people will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in this funky little place, even if it's just for a little while.
